Oh, and by the way...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

A FREE CHRISTMAS SONG (from Untitled Blue)!!

New Mad Atlantic???

OK.

So, I'm working on music for two different things right now. One is Untitled Blue and our rock opera. Info for that can be found here, but there's not much for now.

I'm also working on new Mad Atlantic stuff, but I'm not posting anything as of yet. I can tell you that it will blend the hard rock sound that I usually go for with the more experimental things in a more conventional package. A little grunge, a little punk, and a little dance. Throw it in a blender...

I'm hoping to print some CD's for the first time ever, and possibly play live as well. I haven't decided, but it's a remote possibility.

I will update again when there is more to say. For now, KveĆ°ja!

New DJ Spectrum and Other Orders of Business

Darklightness will be out any day now. November 9th to be exact, and I've been having some fun.

For those of you who want updates, here they are:

  1. I am writing new stuff for Mad Atlantic, slowly but surely.
  2. Untitled Blue is my current project, and we hope to be done recording by the end of the year.
  3. Helok is on hold, but I'm still trying to figure out a sound (industrial-based)
So, there you go.

Have a safe Halloween, and remember to watch as many scary movies as you can. My recommendations:
  • Alien
  • Saw
  • Audition
  • [REC]

DJ Spectrum - NEW ALBUM "Darklightness"

The new DJ Spectrum album Darklightness will be available 11/9/2010 everywhere digitally as well as on my Bandcamp site.

There are nine tracks, all titled One through Nine.

The first four tracks are of a more ambient consistency, without a beat per-se, and the next four have a beat of some sort (having a more electronica feel). The last track is a solo piano piece.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at either my Mad Atlantic address or my new DJ Spectrum address.

Also, if you would like DJ Spectrum or Mad Atlantic to perform, I am currently booking shows for both. You can shoot me an email at the respective e-mail address.

Thanks,
Kaelin Bougneit

Three's a Party

As you may know, my friends Mike Johnson and Haley Erickson and I are working on a rock opera together. We decided to spend a little time recording a cover of the Decemberists' "The Crane Wife Part 3."

More on the rock opera to follow.

Here it is

Review-a-Day?

I've been thinking about it for a while and I thought I may be able to gain a little media attention with a new exploit: Review-a-Day.

I have an expansive music library and tend to neglect a lot of it, so I thought that if I went through and listened to an album per day and then wrote a review, it would be interesting for readers. This would be done separate from Mad Atlantic.

Your opinion is needed, so I've created a poll on the side. I need at least 50 votes to make a decision, so refer your friends. Don't base your decision off of whether you think I have the time or not, but whether you'd find it interesting or even useful.

Thanks for your help,

New Stuff?

I am currently collaborating with my friend Mike Johnson a new piece: a rock opera.

I'm not sure where it will go, but all I can say is that it is turning out to be very hard to write. I don't have any new songs to flaunt, but I hopefully will soon. With two more weeks until my summer starts, I probably won't get much done.

Until then, cheers!

Mad Atlantic

BTW...I have had a whole bunch of people ask, so here it is: my cover of Jeff Buckley's (and then Rufus Wainwright's) song "Hallelujah".

50 Posts Strong... and Aiming Higher

You keep me in business. Yes, you! I can see you staring at your computer screen, and I'm watching you.

Okay, maybe not, but you are still my only supporters, whoever you are. Or whomever. Whatever.

So, I finally got around to finding that lousy album art I've been looking for. And I most certainly found it. Then, I took a half an hour to get it perfect.

Here it is: the album art for Life in Stone:

Love you all! Thanks for making this album possible!

Oh, and just as a thank you, I'm posting a recording I did of Neutral Milk Hotel's song "The Penny Arcade in California" aka. "Untitled". It comes from (in my opinion) one of the greatest albums of all time: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

Updates: Life in Stone

I'm just going to say everything.

Life in Stone is finished , but it feels like just a collection of songs to me. It really does. It feels like a collection of singles and individual tracks that I pieced together into a big montage with no discernible flow.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. A lot of artists get away with that now, don't they. The album is dead. It's true. When you look at the charts of the "popularity" on iTunes, one song is always WAY higher than the others.

The album is dead.

I didn't want Life in Stone to purposefully be like that. It just is. Maybe you'll like it. Maybe not.

Life in Stone is shorter than Mad Atlantic, but not by much. It runs at 31:49. It's much more eclectic than my debut, with everything from pop to hard rock to jazz experimentation.

I will post the tracklist soon.
